Seeking graduate students to work on projects related to digital and embedded systems and radar applications


The Remote Sensing Center and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama is seeking multiple graduate students to work on projects related to digital and embedded systems and radar applications.

The students hired for these positions will work directly with Dr. Ryan Taylor as a part of a research team including students and faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, and the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering in the Remote Sensing Center (RSC) at the University of Alabama (UA). The research assistants will work with Dr. Taylor to build high-speed digital systems and frameworks to support radar and SAR missions in remote locations including Greenland and Antarctica. The students will work specifically in the Digital And embedded Research Technologies (DART) lab in the RSC at UA. Job duties will vary depending on the nature of the project. The students will work in a team-based environment using cutting-edge research technology to build robust, low-power systems capable of high throughput in extreme environments.

The well-qualified candidate will have skills in research and digital design including a proficiency with digital CAD systems and programming with C and Python. Surface-mount soldering experience is a plus. A candidate holding a master's degree in a related field and seeking a doctorate degree will be given priority in the hiring process. He or she must have excellent written and oral English communication skills and be flexible and self-motivated.

To be eligible for this opportunity, the candidate must be accepted into the graduate program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and maintain full-time enrollment as a graduate student at the University of Alabama.
